Chairman’s Christmas Message

Dear all, I hope this message finds you and your families well as the Covid Christmas approaches.

I have a few things to tell you about the Season just past and plans for the 2021 Season.

To say that the 2020 Season has been a challenge would be an understatement, in fact, at one point it was looking as though we would not get any cricket in at all this year. This prospect put great pressure on the club’s finances.

With this in mind both Dan and Monty both volunteered to take a cut in their fees but yet still continued to prepare the ground for play all the way through the lockdown before we were allowed to actually play, so a special thanks to these two gentlemen.

Fortunately, we were able to secure a grant from Sport England and in addition, over £500 raised on our crowdfunding page organised by Ian Burnham. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who made donations, whether by putting money into crowdfunding or by way of early payment of Subscriptions, and in some cases both.

Thankfully, we were able to get underway and we were lucky enough to play a significant number of games through the second half of the summer. Congratulations must go to Jules and the 2s for winning their version of the Corona League and Well done to JD and the 1s for their showing in the toughest Division. Both these performances show the potential for a great season in 2021. Also, a well done to Keith for arranging a record number of Wednesday fixtures. Lastly on the playing front I would like to thank all those who turned out on Sundays, some at very short notice!

As you will be aware, we were unable to have our AGM this year at the normal time. As things stand at present, we will attempt to carry out Election of officers, presentation of 2020 awards and the usual functions of the AGM at the pre-season meeting in early April. With that in mind the current crop of Club officials has been canvased and I can report that all are willing to stand again for next season, with one or two exceptions. I will send out details of the meeting nearer the time.

Looking forward to next season, and covid permitting, hopefully we will all be in a better place than before, and back to a full fixture list.

Meanwhile stay safe and have a Great Christmas,

Chris.
