JD leads from the front by scoring a scintilating 74 , Sam delivers once again and bowlers made a remarkable recovery towards the termial parts of the game to win the game for first team.

CUDHAM WYSE 1st team VS Eynsford 1st team

Both teams have played some very close games in last year or so, so this was always going to be another exciting game and it really turned out to be one as well. Alfie Wheeler won the toss and asked us to bat first on an overcast day. Jawad Hussain and Sam Merron were very disciplined in their approach and first 6 overs went for only 12 runs. Jawad once fully settled at crease played the role of enforcer with some brilliant shots down the ground. Runs started to flow from both ends with Sam waiting for loose balls. Both were brilliant in their shot making on a slow surface. First wicket fell at 117 when Sam (42) holed out at long leg boundary. 22 overs had been passed by then but all of us were super pleased with the opening duo's amazing performance. Jawad was batting brilliantly still but I struggled to kick on , partly due to bad shot selection and partly due to controlled mid innings bowling from their spinners. JD got dismissed playing a shot straight back to their ''offie''.Adnan also couldn't capitalise on a well set platform, so did Najaf and Tameem. I think we misread the game here by trying to play only big shots when so many singles were available. Lewis and Abdul ended the innings on a better note with 19 runs coming off final two overs. Lewis hit a good shot down the ground , a flat batted pull drive over long on. We ended with a decent score of 193-8.

First 20 overs: 108-0
Second 20 overs: 85-8

Tea was taken by all players and it was a well made tea by Cmab Cheema. We did our usual team huddle. Jd talked about how although the score could have been more , but we would have taken this score of 193 if offered before the game had started. Cmab and Abdul started the bowling innings and were up against two quality batsmen of div2.Cmab struggled badly in his first spell against the wind and leaked 24 runs from his first 3 overs. Abdul was bowling brilliantly and kept on bowling probing line and length. Eynsford got off to a flier and score read 46/0 after 8 overs.Suhsil was brought on and started well. Abdul finally was rewarded with a wicket when he himself took a stunning one handed catch. One brings usually few and that was the case as Eynsford lost two more wickets in the next 5 overs. Cmab removed the danger man Alfie who got a century vs cudham last season in this ficture. Joe Thomas took a quality catch at midwkt position to send their man batsman back to pavilion.Cmab and Sushil bowled amazingly well around overs 11-16. Najaf bowled alright and was unlucky not to get a wicket. Joe Thomas came into attack from down the hill end and bowled their number 5 batsman and also got one more wicket. I was entrusted to bowl a few overs as wkt had assistance for slow bowlers and started with a maiden and only gave 8 runs in 3 overs. Once it started raining Jd smartly brought the trio of Abdul, Cmab and Sushil to bowl last 11 overs. Eynsford kept on fighting hard and were still in the game with 55 needed from last 10 overs and 5 wickets in hand.
Rain halted the game for 15-20 mins. Once it cleared out a bit we came back the positive mindset of taking wickets rather than trying to defend 30 runs. Sushil took the match winning wicket of Number 4 batsman and this clearly changed the game. Next over Cmab bowled fast and on the money and took two more wickets. With 18 needed off last 2, Tameem was entrusted the responsibility of bowling a pressure situation over and Man with the golden arm didn't disappoint by taking the last wicket of their number 7 batsman. Adnan took a brilliant calm and composed catch at long on boundary to win this see saw of a game for green army by a small margin of 13 runs.
