Being Outplayed and outwitted By The Opposition , only shining light was Cmab Cheema in this loss.

Horsmonden’s first team skipper Dave Rayment won the toss and elected to bat first on what seemed to be a good batting surface. Seemab Ahsan and Abdul Muhammad started the proceedings for us and didn’t start very well. First two overs went for 17, all the shots were aerial though. Soon they found their line and length and the mounting dot balls resulted in a run out of their super positive batsman Sam Carpenter. Dave Rayment (93 runs ,one of the finest batsmen you will come across in KCVl) was given a chance at slip off Abdul on 2 runs. First change bowler Najaf Abbas started with two wickets in his very first over. He was bowling brilliantly with some nice flight and turn. Sushil’s first spell was very economical and he kept the batsmen in check. Joe Thomas started with a wicket in his very first over thanks to a catch well taken at covers. Their opener was still batting and score read 98-4 after 28 overs. Waqas Ahmed and Joe Thomas bowled well initially but soon were targeted by their skipper and leaked some runs in overs 28-31. Momentum changed dramatically in this stage of the innings. Sushil , Cmab , Najaf and Abdul were asked to bowl last 9 overs. Najaf was pretty accurate whilst Sushil leaked a few runs , so unlike him. Cmab and Abdul picked 2 wkts each but by then damage had been done and Horsmonden ended with 201-8 in their allotted 40 overs.

Jawad Hossain; 1st Team Captain

Tea was taken and A new set of openers were given the job to start our innings. Sushil pulled their opening bowler for a boundary, but was soon dismissed playing one shot too many. Andy Hemmings got out to a good ball , myself was given a harsh decision **ball hitting my thigh while I was playing a front front drive 2-3 yards outside the crease ** by umpire. Soon we were in a spot of bother 13-3 after 5 overs . It got even worse with Adnan getting out to a Great catch behind the stumps and  Lewis / Jawad being dismissed soon after as well. Score read 17-6 after 8 overs with all batsmen being too impatient till now.  This was our worst ever start in a batting innings in last decade, with our previous worst commit against the same opposition in 2015. Ed Streeten and Seb Lewis were rewarded with wickets for their nagging good length bowling with those 6 wkts. Najaf batting at 7 looked very good for his 20 runs .Waqas and Seemab put on a decent partnership  to take us to 80 runs odd. Soon they were dismissed as well with Joe being stranded on 8*. Only positive of the innings was Seemab Cheema reminding all of us That he can bat as well when given the opportunity with very well made 35. Our batting unit is very talented but too too impatient at times. This is surely an area , where we can improve massively.

Off course this was a depressing loss as we only competed in the first 28 overs of the game. After that it was all HCC , credit should  be given to their brilliant display with bat and ball. I am hoping our batsmen learn from this debacle and apply themselves better in the remainder 15 games. It’s a Long season and anything can happen with all 10 teams capable of beating each other.

Here s to a better Saturday next week.
Onwards and upwards.
